Doors represent 'our freedom and our access to the outside world; they are also a barrier, acting as protection, supplying support and comfort.' (Hale, 1999, p.56). Windows allow us to see the world outside our home. If the view through them is impeded the occupants can suffer as a consequence. Doors Open doors
allow us access to other rooms and outside our homes. Closed doors protect
us and create privacy when we need it. This also reflects on the occupant personally. Do you feel agitated when you can't open a door properly? Do you start banging and pushing a door if it doesn't open far enough because there are objects behind it? If these objects are cleared, and the door is fixed, this allows you to enter the room or the world with a not so agitated spirit.
Windows Windows allow
natural light and views of the world outside. They are encourage positive
chi into the room. However too many windows can create 'excess yang' by
filling a room with chi, while too few windows 'restrict its flow and
are yin.' (Hale, 1999, p.57). - Curtains should be tied back so the windows can be fully viewed.
