The elements and phases (discussed in other sections in 'Principles') are correlated into a calculated map called The Bagua Map (or Pa Kua). The map is formed from 8 fundamental trigrams which feature in the Yijing (Book of Changes - 'the first known attempt by the Chinese to formulate a system of knowledge around the interplay of yin and yang' (Moran & Biktashev, 1999, p.31). Compass directions and the associations with the elements and Chi come together in the Bagua Map. It is the tool we can use to create comfortable living, working and leisure spaces. In the 'Chi & You' section of this site, there is a calculator in which you find out how the Bagua Map can benefit you. It is a map that relates to you and your environment, and points out the 5 elemental phase areas. Once this is shown it allows you to alter the chi according to the cycles explained in the '5 elemental phases' section. The Bagua map is formed with a formulae, which we won't go into here, but more information can be gathered from such books mentioned in the 'Further Info' section of this website.
