The universal energy of which Feng Shui aims to harness is called 'chi' (also spelled 'qi') (Moran & Biktashev, 1999, p.35).
It is a 'cosmic breath' that moves and is everywhere
( Moran & Biktashev, 1999, p.36).

Feng Shui allows for smooth movement of Chi throughout a house, a unit, a bedroom etc. Where Chi flows smoothly, there is a positive atmosphere, when chi moves sluggishly, you are likely to find negativity and problems. (Hale, 1999, p.13)

Chi is the energy acupuncturists activate with their needles to help cure a patient of their ailments. Chi is what martial artists channel to break solid objects ( Moran & Biktashev, 1999, p.36).

Together with the other principles and techniques of Feng Shui, chi is channelled to benefit an environment, and those living within it. Chi is everywhere and we all have the opportunity to let it flow in a way that will enhance our lives.
